A WORD ABOUT WOOD

Wood is the stuff of trees. Its precious beauty comes from the distinctive grain, color, depth and individuality that speaks to you from each and every piece.
For exactly the same reason that each of us unique, each tree is an individual......and like us, each experiences a different environment that impresses itself upon its character. 

Rare in today’s mass produced world, genuine wood’s beauty comes from its distinctiveness, no two pieces will ever be the same.  In a mass produced world, it is easy to overlook the charm that wood’s personality can impart.  But here is some perspective. When I was a boy the very first wood substitutes hit the market, pictures of wood impressed upon some kind of plastic substrate. Artificial. I remember then, folks howling their disdain at furnishings made from the stuff: “Why..... you can see that its not real wood! Look: every piece looks the same!”

But a funny thing has happened during recent years, fake woods have dominated the market and mass production furniture makers have been resorting to heavy, opaque stains to hide their inferior grades of wood. Some folks have not only become accustomed to the look of unnatural uniformity, but some have even come to expect real, quality wood products to fail the same test of character!

We buy the highest quality hardwoods and genuine wood veneers, mill them right here, then lovingly finish them with crystal clear lacquer so that all of the natural beauty shines through.   Our Honduran Mahogany is not something that looks like Honduran Mahogany. It is not a picture of Mahogany, nor a hunk of Poplar with a murky brown stain. It IS Honduran Mahogany. The same thing goes for our Cherry, Maple, Walnut and our wildly grainy, quirky Ash.

First, we show a pair of Ospreys with Zebrawood Sides and back and a baffle and top of Walnut with an off center very wide ash stringer

This Osprey has Ropey Cherry Sides and a baffle and top of Curly Cherry with symmetrical narrow Maple Stringers

A beautiful pair of Maple Kestrel 2's ... The baffle and tops are Ambrosia Maple.  The dark colorations are caused by the Ambrosia Beetle.

If you look closely, you will see the small holes that the beetles made in the Maple.

This Osprey is Pommele Sapele on the sides with a baffle and top of Mahogany and a Walnut Stringer down the center
